语言中并没有纯粹为了俏皮而存在的用法。

on the fly 相对比较常见的含义是“不经过某种额外步骤而直接进行某项活动”。

它可以被应用于许多场景。

如果一个驱动程序可以不重启就生效，我们可以说这是生效 on the fly。
如果一个插件可以在主程序不重启时直接加载，我们也可以说这是加载 on the fly。
如果光盘数据可以不经过缓存直接被刻录，我们也可以说这是刻录 on the fly。
如果我们把产生数据和处理数据之间直接打通一个通道，就可以一边生产数据一边处理数据，而不需要把数据生产完毕之后，再进行处理，因此这叫做数据处理 on the fly。

从翻译的角度，可以翻译成直接，也可以翻译成一边。。。一边。。。

但是恰当的翻译可能是把这个具体的 on the fly 所省略的对象给翻译出来，也就是说， on the fly 必然意味着你可以省略某个操作而直接进行某种操作，把它所省略的操作翻译出来，就完全信达了原义了。

完全赞成； 我看QGIS中，实际上是GIS领域中，也有"on the fly"，翻译成“即时CRS转换”；其另一个隐含的动作即手工选择一个转换的坐标系统而转换；
